Thur 15th August - Course Week

The weather first thing looked challenging, so we went into the class room for a refresher on stalling symptoms, thermals and how the lift on a wing actually works.

After a coffee and cake break we heard some fascinating stories from Sir Chris about his time in the Royal Air Force and drawing parallels from these experiences to apply in the gliding world.

The weather then seemed to be lifting and so we got the gliders out after lunch and started flying at 1:30ish.

A brisk south westerly wind was challenging, speed and height being essential for a successful flight.

Launching stopped by about 4pm, when, although bright and sunny, the gusts sadly made for an early finish.

The day then concluded with a very social and enjoyable meal at the Keepers Cottage. - Barbara Cook (new member and first-time blogger)
