With a very slow start to the day due to low cloud and likely showers some of the course members had various briefings and we also used the simulator to practice various exercises while we waited for the weather to hopefully improve.
The clouds breaking (Mike Sloggett) |
After our briefings the clouds were lifting and eventually breaking over the airfield, we then all made the decision to get the gliders out. Due to a brisk NNE wind we were up the far end of the airfield. At about 11am the flying began with only short flights due to little amount of lift and simulated launch failures seemed to be the most common flights due to the conditions.
Green shoots after some rain (Mike Sloggett) |
At around 1pm we had a short break for lunch and began flying operations again at 1:30. The conditions improved with little amounts of lift but higher cloudbase. Heavy forecast rain stopped the flying for a short time at around 4pm but flying swiftly carried on at 5pm once the rain cleared.
At about 6:30pm the course flying came to an end and we handed the kit over to the Wednesday evening flying group. - Jake Stabb
