Mon 15th August - Course Week

This blog is being written in the briefing room whilst the sky is being lit up with lightning , which you will later gather is why we didn’t fly all day.

At the start of the day the sky was grey and the weather was laughing upon us. Mike Sloggett and Peter Smith completed the course welcoming and everybody introduced themselves. At around 9:30 the gliders were pulled out of the hangar and readied for the day . As we were about to tow them to the launchpoint, the heavens opened upon us. The gliders were sharply put away and dried off.

As 12 o’clock came, and some  Simulator work and ground school had been completed - It was go-time!

Gliders were towed straight to the launch point knowing that there was a front with likely rain and thunderstorms on it’s way later in the afternoon. KEK was up the launch shortly followed by HCX.

First glider flight for new member Will Thieman (Hans Jenssen)

Everybody on the course then had at least 2 flights which were quite short but interesting due to no lift being around  nothing happening. Mid-afternoon the skies around North Hill were darkening so Mike and Peter made the decision to put the gliders to bed at around 4 o’clock shortly after which thunder and lightning was shortly spotted in the distance.

Everybody came back to the clubhouse for some de-briefings and headed home shortly after.
