It was a beautiful sunny morning with just an easterly breeze at the Clubhouse. By the time we had walked the gliders up the field and set up, the wind had freshened dramatically out on the exposed launch point.
Parked up waiting prior to launch (Jill Harmer) |
The first launch with Peter Smith and Paul Kane was over in a flash after a gusty cable break and 8 knots wave sink in the circuit. With the wind speed on the Skylaunch set a notch higher, the second launch with Pete Harmer and Nigel Everett proceeded more sedately until another gusty weak leak broke. Following a nil brake approach calibrating the curlover, and a short discussion between Instructors, the toys were walked back down the field to the safety of the hangar.
There was some hope that the gusty wind would calm down, but after an early lunch and entertaining our Trial lesson visitors in the Simulator, and the second trip to the far end, it was decided to call it a day. - J&P
