It was no surprise to see so few members given the forecast for the day. Myself and Peter Smith were the only ones present at the clubhouse up until 9:00am, when a small stream of people turned up.
Ever the optimist as glider pilots normally are, kit was unpacked and inspected ready for a gap in the weather.
A nice start (Will Stainer) |
Clouds popping up (Peter Smith) |
By 10:00am the cloud had broken enough for us to fly. Sadly due to lack of members present, reduced aerotows seemed the only option. Tug Pilots Stuart Procter and James Hood getting everyone in the air. It was a relatively smooth but there was a lot of sink present near the north ridge. By the time I had flown, the wind had picked up with a lot of turbulence, resulting in bumpy aerotows and approaches and a yellow card was raised.
North Hill in the sun (Peter Smith) |
Between dodging frequent showers the flying list (although significantly shorter than normal) was worked through. Lizzie Westcott consolidated her aerobatic flying from her weekend at Lasham a couple of weeks ago, and the trial lessons were flown by Rowan Smith.
With the weather once again closing in kit was packed up at 4:30pm. A very wet day but at least we all flew - 12 flights and nearly 4 hours in total between showers. - Will Stainer
