Thurs 13th August

The forecast showed a wet start and a sunny afternoon, but by Thursday morning this had reversed to a sunny start and an early finish....

It was a sunny start with some high cloud, but the lower cloud started filling in from the south from mid-morning, but it was still slightly soarable. The booked training with Pete Harmer was James Smart in the morning wishing to complete his Bronze skills test and Ashley Thomas in the afternoon, for solo checks and consolidation.

A K21, Perkoz and Junior were taken to the launch point  and it was mainly circuits for everyone through to a late lunch.

Gordon Hutchinson in K21

With simulated rope breaks (both winch and aerotow) and spin exercises and some soaring for James, he successfully completed his skills test to complete his Bronze. During lunchtime, the sky to the south turned black and started grumbling loudly, it was clear that Honiton was getting very wet and it started edging further to the north with the rumbling continuing.

The kit was walked back to the hangar just north of the thundery rain area, so unfortunately Ashley missed out on his solo consolidation. Congrats to Pete Harmer who has now flown 11,000 launches.

Congratulations also to Mike Horwood, Martin Woolner and Gordon Hutchinson who have recently passed their Radio Licence tests after completing the BGA FRTOL course, with thanks to James Smart for the coaching.  J&P
