Thursday 5th June - Course Week

Surprisingly quiet, considering the good forecast for the best day this week...
There was a little housekeeping  early on - thanks to Peter Sm and Mark L for the rodding of the drains and William for changing the filters in the water purifier.
The low cloud at 09:00 soon lifted, and there was soaring from the first launch before 10:00, not sure why the private owners delayed launching for so long. Unfortunately, by lunchtime the nice 4000ft cloudbase had become spreadout and dropped to 3000ft, making it more tricky to get away from the winch.
Matt W in SF27 H5, Joe S in ASW19 877, and Matt Sm in K6 HEB all got briefed and prepared for Silver distance to The Park. Plan B was to fly there and get back which proved a little too challenging in the weakening conditions.
Matt Sm landed back, Joe made it just short of Crewkerne, and Matt W "turned the Park,  and partway back before all the soarable sky disappeared except over Yeovil. A landout  just south of Street, many thanks to David from The Park who saw SF27 from his back garden and was quickly on scene to co-ordinate with the local farmers and offer a much required brew! Thanks to Martin for the retrieve"
SF27 - Nice field

Pete St Discus 230 flew 206Km NHL- Wylye - Blandford - NHL " I could write a book about this one. A sorry saga of poor task selection, sea air, spreadout and convergences(some good, some not so).
I cannot thank enough the Yeovilton ATC ladies and gents who allowed me to grovel then climb away in their MATZ/ATZ when I was dead and buried - and into a working convergence which got me home in an otherwise dead sky. Another 'fun' West Country x-c!"
Adrian tested the IS28M2 over water with a day out in Alderney.

Meanwhile the Course had their best day of the week with plenty of soaring flights for all,  and Club flying continued  with George having his longest flight in the Junior so far 46mins, and Wooly guiding Ray B to Yeovil and back in DG505.
