The early morning forecast quenched the optimism of the evening before. Low cloud, and little wind to disperse it greeted those who made the pilgrimage to North Hill. Nevertheless gliders were DI’d and taken to the west end (other than KEK which a careful DI picked up a crack in the rear cockpit canopy steel support frame). Well done that man.
We waited, then waited some more for the cloud to break and clear but met flights confirmed a stubbornly low cloudbase and poor visibility at lower levels, so we abandoned all hope of greater things mid-afternoon and hangar flights with one glider airborne at a time followed.
The sun then broke through for the last part of the afternoon, but the murk still didn’t clear. - Peter Smith
