It was always looking a bit dodgy for the morning with forecast low cloud and drizzle clearing to warm sunny spells with some lines of heavy showers during the afternoon. Kit was readied with a little adjustment of the drum selector on the winch and an early lunch was called.
Aerotow looking for the cloud breaks (Mark Layton) |
The three trial lessons all offered to be flexible and so we were able to fit the aerotows round the cloud breaks and showers (thanks to Robert for tugging.) However with only Pete Harmer and Chris Wool instructing (due to holidays) and a yellow card restriction, it took all afternoon to get everyone flown - thanks also to Stu Procter for helping out. Glenn enjoyed his first flights from the back of DG505 in preparation for his Instructor renewal at the weekend.
One of those nice sunny spells (Jill Harmer) |
The showers took their toll on any long flights and there were hints of wave interference at times as well, but with thermals popping off the ridge and the ridge working it was pleasant enough.
Longest flights were Mark Layton in Junior and Nigel Everett in DG300 for a bit less than 1 hour from the winch. -J&P
